Subterranean Termites

VIP Pest Control offers subterranean termite protection and elimination programs.  Subterranean termite swarm season is typically March – May.  They can swarm anytime during daylight hours.  During swarm times, termites leave their nest to mate and find a place to start a new colony. They form large colonies in the ground and use mud tubes to reach the wood in your home.  Mud tubes allow termites to travel through the foundation and into the wood in your home.  Mud tubes are a sign that you may have a subterranean infestation.  You may see subterranean termite wings and body parts on your window sills.  Subterranean termites are usually size 1/8”-3/8” long and lightly colored (cream or beige), have soft and round bodies and six legs.  They search for food, cellulose, in wood and paper products.

Damaged wood is another indicator termites are present. Subterranean termites can be hard to spot. They do not make kick-out feces or debris called Frass. Call VIP for a free inspection.

Drywood Termites

Drywood termite swarm season is May-November.  Drywood termites swarm at night usually between 8 pm – 11:00 pm. They are blind and swarm towards light in your windows and even your television.

A drywood termite can be identified by a straight brown body with rainbow color wings and are 1/8”-1” in size.  They sometimes drop “frass” from the colony before they swarm. “Frass” is petrified wood that the termites excrete. They do not like their waste in their homes, so they make holes in drywall and wood, called “kick out holes”.  They look like little black dots in drywall, door frames, or wood in the home.

VIP Pest Control understands the stress and hassle of having your home or office tented to treat Drywood termites. We have a non-tent low-toxicity treatment for drywood termite treatment.  Bora-Care Termiticide is an Insecticide and Fungicide Concentrate (Boric Acid).  It’s a wood treatment with patented glycol penetrants that kills and prevents termites, carpenter ants, wood boring beetles and decay fungi. Bora-Care is also used to prevent and kill termites and wood boring beetles in existing construction.  It is odorless and pet and family friendly.  If tenting is determined to be a better solution for your drywood termite needs, we will gladly provide a recommendation for you.
